Handling and Installation Guide Transmission Insulators - IPB
INSULATOR HANDLING GUIDEIncorrect handling, transport, storage and installation can cause damage to insulator performance. Thus it is necessary to follow some careful steps in order to avoid problems:
Receiving:
Opening the packaging carefully. Make sure that the insulators do not come into contact with any cutting tools;
When removing covers or internal packaging dividers, remove or bend the nail ends or similar.
Storage:
The insulators should be stored in a dry and sheltered place, in their original packaging;
The packaging should not be in direct contact with the soil and should be in an area free from still water or pollutants;
The packaging should be protected against rodents;
If it is necessary to unpack the insulators, they should be hung by appropriate supports or protected in plastic tubes of PVC.
Transportation:
The transportation of insulators should be carried out in their original packaging. Avoid leaving them loose or in contact with any other object transported in the truck;
When removed from the packing, the insulators should be equipped with a provisional protection;
Insulators should not be transported loose or tied with chains, wire, rope, etc;
Never put other materials or equipment on the units while they are being transported;
Assembly:
Once removed from the packing, the insulators should be temporarily placed in protective packaging;
Avoid places where there is a risk of the insulators coming into contact with other components or equipment;
Do not put the insulators directly on the soil. Use protection (a canvas or plastic covering);
Insulators with less than 2.5 meters can be loaded by one person, holding it in the middle. Larger units should be loaded by two people and the insulator should be held by each person half a meter from each end. Do not drag insulators along the ground;
When lifting, the insulators should be tied by one of their iron fittings and raised vertically. Do not hoist by the insulator sheeds;
The lifting ropes should not be thrown onto the insulators;
Do not walk, sit down, climb or crawl on the insulators. Stairways or platforms should always be used;
Do not use the insulators as support for stairways or other equipment.
